A group of dedicated female mathematicians known as “human computers” calculated the numbers that would launch rockets and astronauts into space. Among these problem-solvers were a group of exceptional African American women.  While Jim Crow laws required them to be segregated from their white counterparts, the women of Langley’s all-black “West Computing” group helped America achieve victory in the domination of the heavens.

Bullet Journaling 101

Adults are invited to Reed Memorial Library on Tuesday, November 27 at 6:30 p.m. to learn about the basics of bullet journaling.
Start planning for 2019 and learn how to make your very own bullet journal to track what really matters to you. Examples of other bullet journals and supplies will be provided.
Registration is required for this event and space is limited.

The Path of Abraham with Tom Riddle

 

Ravenna native, Tom Riddle, will be at Reed Memorial Library on Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 pm to discuss what it was like for him, in eight days, to walk most of the route that scholars believe Jesus used as he traveled south from the north of Palestine to Jericho in the south. Using his own photographs and movies Riddle will discuss what it was like to walk “The Path of Abraham” as well as the practicalities of making such a walk. The modern history and politics of the region will be touched on, but that is not the major theme of the talk. Registration is required for this event.

 

Camino de Santiago with Tom Riddle

 

Ravenna native, Tom Riddle, will be at Reed Memorial Library on Sunday, November 18 at 2:00 pm to discuss his travel experiences and adventures while hiking the Camino de Santiago historical path.
Riddle will share photographs, discuss the historical significance of this path, preparation tips for such a hike, and his overall experiences. The Camino de Santiago is a historic pilgrimage route that runs through Spain, leading to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.
